Gustav Mahler’s sixth symphony requires a hammerschlag or hammer blow. Mark Weaver of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra constructed a hammer drum in his garage for principal percussionist Connie Coghlan to play during the ECSO’s concert at the Garde Arts Center on Saturday October 22, 2011.
