Connecticut State Trooper 1st Class Joe Miller administers a field sobriety test to a driver stopped in the southbound lane of I-395 in Montville early last Saturday. The driver failed the test and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the established lane.
Last weekend, I spent an eight-hour shift riding with the Connecticut State Police on one of their DUI enforcement patrols. There have been several DUI-related accidents in the news recently in the area of routes 2A and 395 in Montville. We originally conceived this as a video project, but had to scrap that plan and go with photos only . It turned out to be not a bad thing, as the dark lighting conditions and the highway setting would have made shooting good video very difficult.
