Holiday VIP spotted atop USS Providence

My production has been a little off this week, but more about that in a later post. I’ve been pretty busy working on something. Anyway, I finally got the camera back in my hands this afternoon for a quick daily video of the USS Providence returning to the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. Sub homecomings and deployments are fairly common around here, but there’s always a lot of emotion surrounding the events, and they’re important to a lot of people. I decided to shoot this mostly natural sound, aptly because we got there with such little time to spare. In the past, I’ve been waiting on the pier for hours, but the sub was already pulling up when the public affairs staff dropped us off.

They always set up a “first kiss,” which means a flock of cameras and everyone getting in each other’s way. Usually, I try to avoid this, as there are so many other nice moments happening all around. I liked the comments from the brief interview, so I eneded up using them as bookends for the video.

Vodpod videos no longer available.
