One of the great pleasures of a cool summer night is sleeping with the bedroom windows open. The chirping crickets in my yard combined with the distant hum of Interstate 395 make a for a soothing lullaby that puts me right to sleep.
Sadly, the recent stretch of humid weather has forced our bedroom into a lockdown. The gentle breeze blowing across the sheets has been replaced by the dry blast of artificial coolness from our air conditioner, whose humming motor drowns out any outside noise. But the past weekend’s thunder storms provided a pleasant respite from the stifling mugginess, allowing us to crack open the hermetically sealed vault in which we had been sleeping…
