Our latest episode of Song Spinner features the Red Hot Stove Tops. It was fun to see how the song Iris transformed from one person’s idea to a fully developed song for a trio. I learned a few good lessons for next time when recording the trio segment. First, we need to get a better audio setup for recording people. We could shoot each interview individually, but we’d lose some of the spontaneity. The other option is to get a boom for the shotgun mic so it can move from subject to subject. Ideally we’d have lavs on all three going into a mixer, but that’s probably more equipment than we’re ever going to be dealing with.
