Voluntown honors fallen Marine Tyler Griffin

Since 2003, I have covered quite a few stories about members of our military who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tyler Griffin, a Marine from Voluntown, was killed in Afghanistan and his body was transported home earlier this week. We heard that a the procession of his hearse through town was going to be attended by a large number of people.

Occasions like these are always very powerful, so I decided to let the video speak for itself, and not ad any interview or voice-over. I watched a few different television reports from the procession, and the interviews they included were fairly predictable. I made the choice to have the only voices you hear be from people making preparations. Once the procession arrived, I just let the natural sound go. My hope is that it gives viewers the experience of being there themselves without needing a journalist’s voice to tell them what they’re looking at.
